Managed Exchange

The Hosted Exchange/Hosted BlackBerry® Enterprise Server/Windows Mobile service allows customers to have complete Exchange 2003, BlackBerry and Microsoft Mobile services without owning any server equipment or software. Everything is hosted online and all the customer requires is a PC and a broadband Internet connection.

How does it work?
The customer’s domain MX records should be pointed to Manex and you then set up all your mailboxes, distribution groups and enable access for smartphones on the service through the a Portal. You then connect Outlook to their respective mailboxes (using OPC.NET – see below) and enterprise activate any BlackBerry smartphones or Microsoft Windows Mobile devices.

The service is specifically designed to provide the best mobility solution of any hosted mail provider in the UK. Customers can use BlackBerry Enterprise Server enabled devices to pair to their mailboxes for seamless synchronisation over the air, or they can use Microsoft Windows Mobile compatible devices to do the same thing.

Provisioning is very easy once the mailboxes are set up.

I already have my own mail server. Why host?
Hosting is much cheaper, more reliable and has more features than running an in-house service:

  • Managing viruses and spam is difficult to do well and can cripple your environment if underestimated
  • Remote access is complicated for remote workers or remote offices
  • Empowering mobile workers with BlackBerry or Windows Mobile can be expensive and require a lot of expertise.
  • Keeping regular tape backups can be costly and labour intensive
  • Upgrading the technology can cause disruption and additional cost

I already have a hosted POP3 service, why should I take the Managed Exchange service?
Most mail services out there are “POP3” or “IMAP4”, i.e. email-only services. You don’t get:

  • Access to Calendars, Contacts, Tasks, email Rules and more
  • The ability to share, say, your appointments diary or contacts
  • Central storage of mail so you see all your mail whether you are at work, home or on your laptop (or your BlackBerry smartphone or Webmail)
  • Central backup of your mail. If your PC dies you don’t lose all your mail!
  • The ability to connect remote or mobile workers with BlackBerry smartphones or Microsoft Windows Mobile services
  • Decent anti-virus and anti-spam filtering
